Professionals and do-it-yourselfers both agree, wallpaper removal is a mess. Each material requires a tailored approach for a clean removal. Preserving the wall intact, without damage is the goal of the game.
If a proper primer/sealer wasn’t used before the wallcovering was installed, this could result in a labor-intensive removal, and possible wall resurfacing.
In many cases you will need a hot, humid environment, sometimes using gallons of water, which can threaten floors and other household items. If the proper care is not taken, damage could result.
Due to the scope of my licensure as a specialty wallcovering contractor, I am limited when performing in another field of expertise. For example I can, and do, perform minor wall repair, but cannot skim coat an entire wall. That work is for a licensed drywall professional.
Similarly I can, and do, prime and seal walls destined for wallpaper, but I cannot paint a whole interior. That is left to a painting professional.
Here on the Big Island of Hawaii, I have top-of-the-line drywall and painting contacts that I collaborate with when the job calls for it.
So, with the countless types of wallpaper, not to mention the different possible adhesives used; do you feel confident removing your wallpaper?
